NEWSTART NEWSTART” is an acronym for 8 laws of health. And I will go over each one quickly. They are “Nutrition”, “Exercise”, “Water”, “Sunshine”, “Temperance”, “Air”, “Rest” and lastly but most importantly “Trust in God”. All of these are part of Gods health plan and are contained in his manual known as his Bible. When you go to fix a car, or a household appliance normally you would have to look to the manufacturer at some point. I want to start at the “T” for “Trust in God” and work back to the “N” for “Nutrition” doing a brief rundown of the importance of these principles. Trust in God Now what does “Trust in God” have to do with health? Well it has a great deal. In fact the bible says that trusting him will give you good health. Pro 3:5-8 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. To trust in God with all your heart leads to joy, and peace, and not only that but following the principles set forth in his word and he will keep you in good health that none of the diseases of Egypt or the world for that matter come upon you. Psa 119:73 Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments. Remember people, God designed us. Obviously he would know what is best for our bodies. This principle is the most important. Directly linked to physical health (Proverbs 3:5-6), trust in God is a gift leading to right choices Rest Very important principle. In fact God created a day for it. It aids in keeping us from getting grouchy or cranky. People who are tired also are not generally very good thinkers. God is looking out for our spiritual health as well as our physical health. Restoration requires rest because sleep allows the body to renew itself. Many types of rest are important for health, but the sweetest rest follows labor. “Early to bed and early to rise” is a vital health principle, and a healthy lifestyle makes this principle easier to maintain. Air Fresh air electrifies the blood and gives it a bright red tone. This indicates it is full of oxygen. The body’s most essential resource is air. More important than food or water, proper breathing and pure air are fundamental to good health. Temperance 1Co 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things By the way God is not saying be temperate in bad things. Temperate in good things. If I study my bible for 12 hours a day every day, then I am overdoing it. If we drink 4 gallons of water in an hour we could be drowned even though water is good for us. God asks us to abstain from bad things be temperate in all things is not inclusive of bad things. He’s not saying be temperate in your adultery, stealing, lying and smoking cigarettes or eating of unclean food. We wouldn’t eat meat with maggots in it as long as we are temperate, or only smoke 1 joint a day would we? The word of God must be understood in it’s complete context. Using good things moderately and avoiding the bad is obviously wise, yet often hard to practice. Temperance can be neither bought nor earned, but is rather an important gift of God, a “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22, 23). Moderation in all things is a thread woven throughout the fabric of a healthy lifestyle. Temperance in diet, leads to temperance in spirituality. Sunshine Nothing would live without sunlight including us. In fact sunshine can change the persons mood. Plants need sunlight to grow. The sun is the established energy source ordained by God to sustain the cycle of life for plants and animals. Sunlight is supremely important for the body’s metabolism and hormonal balance. Sunlight lowers blood sugar. It also lowers cholesterol by converting it to vitamin D. Sunlight utilizes calcium and phosphorus, increases red and white blood cells, strengthens the immune system, calms nerves, increases adrenalin, destroys germs on skin, reverses Jaundice etc. Water Water cleanses the tissues. Water is necessary for life. Lots of water helps eliminate waste in the body which can intrude into the blood stream. It is recommended to drink 6, 8 oz glasses of water a day by some and others recommend more than that. Because the body is 70% water, keeping well hydrated and knowing what and when to drink are essential to health. Water leaves the system through the sweat glands pushing out many of the toxins that enter the body. Water is good for cleaning your food in as well as water will push out the toxins in your food when you allow them to soak. Water is necessary for cleaning the body. Water is so important in fact that God who likens his “body” to the “church”, likens “water” to his “word”. And God’s children esteem the “water of the word” more necessary than our daily food .[Job 23:12]. We can live for a while without food. However we can’t live very long without water. Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, Exercise God created us and has always given us something to do. Including keep the garden in Eden. Exercise helps blood circulate. Our muscles will develop atrophy if we don’t use them. As it has been said “If you don’t use it, you lose it”. The heart also is a muscle. When you don’t use your muscles your blood stops flowing and this can lead to congested heart failure. The heart needs exercise. Without any exercise the heart will become too weak to push the blood through the system. Action is a law of life. Muscle tone and strength are lost without exertion, but exercise improves the health of body, mind, and spirit multiplying vitality and health. Moderate exercise such as walking, swimming, and gardening are some of the best remedies for a diseased body. Nutrition Well, we’ve discussed a little about everything and I haven’t stressed the importance of the other laws of health so much. However these should by no means be ignored. This is only meant as a start to a basic guide to the true principles of a healthy lifestyle. Proper nutrition is the foundation of good health and recovery. |
